Louise Thorndycraft – Blue Sky Yoga

I’ve been teaching hatha yoga since 2007 and leading kirtan since 2013. I use the name Blue Sky Yoga in recognition of the fact that our mind, when settled, resembles a blue sky – our thoughts, like clouds, passing by with no need for attachment or analysis.

I’m particularly fascinated by the healing capacity of yoga, both in terms of the asana (posture) and pranayama (breathing) practices of hatha yoga and the kirtan (devotional chanting) practice of Bhakti yoga. I encourage students to develop an embodied and intuitive approach to both movement and voice work, welcoming the sensations and emotions that arise when we slow down and mindfully allowing things to evolve in their own time.

My teaching experience includes: weekly yoga classes and kirtan chanting; corporate mindfulness workshops; residential yoga retreats; private one to one sessions and classes for specialist groups including mental health service users, female asylum seekers, drug and alcohol project users and school children and teachers. I taught weekly yoga sessions for Everton Football Club’s first team and youth academy for two years before leaving Liverpool.

After moving to Swansea in May 2012, my practice and teaching began to place a much greater emphasis on mantra and my first CD of devotional chanting is currently in production, due for release in Spring 2016. More details are on my website: www.blueskyoga.co.uk
