Description

Twin Wave is an award winning enterprise. Our faciliators have over 25 years experience working in partnership with schools, community groups and businesses, bringing together music, wellness and recycling.

We aim to improve wellbeing by balancing physical and mental health through different forms and uses of music and sound.
We support creative and healthy lifestyles for residents of Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
We are a vehicle for community delivery, including work across many public and business sectors – health, community and education.

Creative therapies are our activities or “waves”
~ Inspiring, motivating and energising

One wave of Twin Wave focuses on drumming to gain body and mind coordination with added benefits, such as:

  • anger management
  • team building
  • cardio exercise
  • stamina building
  • fun
  • improved circulation

The second wave of Twin Wave focuses on sound meditation to tune your mind, body and soul into harmony with additional benefits, such as:

  • rejuvenation
  • relaxation
  • stress reduction
  • energising
  • pain release
  • improved focus

When we bring these two waves together, we have the unique combination of the Twin Wave activity called ‘Beats Per Minute’.

Beats Per Minute is cardio drumming and relaxing sound meditation for individuals and groups of all ages and abilities.

At the beginning we have a fun warm up with different rhythms, movements and songs. This is followed by HIT (high intensity training) with 1 minute intervals of intensive drumming at a pace that is comfortable yet challenging for each individual. We balance exercise with a relaxing sound meditation which allows cooling down, reflection and replenishing of energy levels.

To show the wide range between exercise and relaxation we measure heart rates, before the start of the session, after 1 minute intervals of intensive drumming, after 2 minutes rest and after sound meditation. This way participants get to know their highs and lows and can then extend their limits in the future sessions.

To make you sound together, contact Paul Midgley on paul@twinwave.co.uk or check out Twin Wave’s website for more info www.twinwave.co.uk

Great fun, despite the cold weather!

We had Paul in for a workshop on Friday, 26th Novemner and he was very easygoing and was able to fit in with our needs.

The children really enjoyed the sessions and all the different types of drum Paul had brought with him.

The purpose of the workshop was for the year5 children to accompany our year 6 children on their lantern parade around the town centre.

It was the coldest evening to date but Paul didn't cancel and the children showed up because they had so much fun the day before.

Despite the weather, we had a great time and Paul remained positive and upbeat throughout the event, geeing up the children when they were starting to feel the effects of the cold weather.

I would highly recommend the DrumRunners session in schools.

Exactly what we needed!

After tough times for all children, it was especially joyful, and noisy, to hear music ringing out troughout our school! Our year 6's had a fantastic day learning their drumming skills and walked proudly at the front of the parade! Paul was amazing with our children and every one of them succeeded with all they did. Many other children heard them playing in school and have been asking when it will be their turn! Our Reception children saw Paul and year 6 playing in our playground and were dancing! I would heartily recommend this to any school, an exciting day learning new skills, a day to remember.

Great drumming workshop!

Paul ran a day of workshops for all our pupils in year 1 up to year 4. Staff and children had a great time, finding the rhythm and participating in drumming. His use of recycled materials to construct his drums fits in perfectly with our 'Green' ethos, and was wonderful for the children to actually upcycled items - they had a real purpose.

Paul was great fun and managed to work towards a theme we directed to - so accommodating!

I've already recommended him to other schools.

Best Children\'s Party Ever!

My little boy first fell in love with drumming with Paul at Basingstoke's Octoberfest 4 years ago, and made sure we went every year after as it was a huge hughlight for him.  When his 5th birthday came around he insisted on having Paul come to his party and do a drumming workshop with all his friends and family and I'm so glad we did!  Paul is incredible, his energy and enthusiasm are infectious and everyone from my 1 year old to my mum got involved with the drumming.  Everyone left the party with a smile on their faces and even a year on (sorry Paul for taking so long to write this review!) I have people still talking about it.  Paul goes above and beyond to ensure everyone has a great time, I would not hesitate to book Paul again and hope to drum with him at some point in the future!

Drumming workshop for Pre-Schoolers

Paul came to our outdoor nursery and ran an amazing session for our 36 Pre-Schoolers.  They danced, they drummed they sang and (incredibly!) the vast majority of them chose to play  non-stop for an hour and a half.  His session was so engaging and fun, and the children loved every second.  We look forward to having Paul come along again next year. Thank you!

Brilliant samba drums

Paul came to an XR workshop recently, and within minutes had us making samba drums from  "junk".  It was brilliant.  He even went on to show us some simple samba rhythms, which combined to make a really uplifting sound. in one evening we went from no drums to a samba group playing on our own home made drums.  wonderful  ?

Children's Workshop at Event

We recently hosted an end of Summer event in Parade Gardens, Twin Wave opened the event with our first session of the day and did such an amazing job. The workshop for children took place on the bandstand - Paul interacted with the children to encourage them to join in before session started. Children loved it and the music sounded great from inside and outside the venue. Paul is professional and communication and response time was great running up to the event.

Drumtastic

My three children (10, 8 & 4) and I enjoyed Paul's drumming workshop, it will be a high point of our summer. It had tons of fun factor,  Paul made them welcome and made them laugh with hone made things like his didgeridoo and making his voice squeaky on the microphone (not many activities seem to make kids genuinely laugh and smile). Like others have said my children have been inspired to make their own drums out of 'found things'; they are singing, humming or tapping the songs and rhythms Paul taught them; and they loved showing their dad the newly discovered noises they can make with their hands and mouth. It was very imaginative and inclusive, my 4yr old particularly liked hearing her voice through the microphone and hearing the 'fairy dust' noise when she was up close to the (i want one of those) sound beams. We would recommend it. Thanks from all of us.

Brilliant workshop

The children thoroughly enjoyed the drumming workshop with Paul! He made sure all children were involved and had a great sense of humour, which the children thought was great! The children are really inspired to make their own instruments and test out the sounds they can make. Thank you Paul, you were great!

Drumming to a different beat

We had a wonderful evening with Paul as a thank you to staff and our board of Trustees. As we were outside the sounds attracted local interest and I think a lot of curiosity. Paul ingeniously put together song lyrics when thrown some challenging words and got everyone involved.

Recommended by all of us!

Great workshop for Year 5-6 children!

Paul ran 5 drumming sessions with 5 Y5/6 classes as part of a feature week at school. The children learnt all about how to recycle materials into instruments and some great songs about recycling! Paul was fantastic with the children, kept a good pace and engaged the pupils from beginning to end. Children are already asking me for another session!

Unbelievable fun for two SEND groups of 7 - 25 year olds. Everyone felt comfortable and was delivered in such an inclusive way from Paul. Hope to work closely with Twin Wave in the future and sign post a number of our groups their way.

Make music from Junk.

Our boys had a go at Junk Drumming at the Music Expo. It wasn't long before mum and dad joined in!

We all had a great time and would definately spread the word about the great work Twin Waves CIC do.

Fantastic experience!

I came all the way from Slovenia to attend a Beats per Minute workshop with Monika and Paul. The first part with Paul and his drums was funny, very energetic and full of good vibes. He also prepared great songs with funny rhymes :-). The second part with Monika was amazing. The gong mediation just blew me away. Fantastic!!! Don’t miss the next opportunity to join Twin Wave and their Beats per Minute workshop and enjoy!

Wow!

I have joined a number of drumming sessions with Twin Wave.  As I live with a chronic pain condition, which limits my mobility.  Twin Wave sessions are ideal for me.  I can work at my own pace, and the benefits for mind, body and spirit are almost instant!  Keep up the great work!

Worth hiring for any event

We hired Paul for our biannual street fair this year. It's the second time we've used him due to how popular he was from the previous street fair in 2016. The great thing about Paul is that he gets everyone involved with his workshop on the day this year it was making drums from recycled bike wheels amongst various smaller items he brought along.

His message for recycling is brought across very well without it feeling pushed onto you. Paul is worth hiring for any event and we will definetly hire him again for our next street fair if he is available.

WONDERFUL CREATIVITY

Twinwave were amazing at the energiser they executed at one of our DAN Diverse Artists network meetings. It was creative, fun and helped break the ice within the arts organisations and individual artists that were present. They are inclusive and make people feel at ease with positivity. I loved it even more as the drums were all made from Upcycled waste materials and the gong that Monika used brought a feeling of calm and tranquility into the space. Monika and Paul are amazing, kind hearted beings that give a great deal to the community.

Who knew drumming was such fun !

A great experience, I really enjoyed the drumming and a fun, novel  way to get my heart pumping.

I have fibromyalgia so a great way to do excersise without over stretching my body.

Drum making and gonging.

Paul and Monika brought a drum making workshop and gonging meditation to our Summer Festival.

The drum making workshop was great activity for the children and the sound was brilliant from drums made of bike wheels and duct tape.  the drums look really good too.  Paul is very good at engaging with people and it was good to see boys getting engaged in making and performing.  Paul led the children on a drumming procession around the village nd the community centre.

The gonging meditation was enjoyed by older people and was a great hit

A banging time

We booked Twinwave to help us celebrate at a big event we threw for Bristol primaries as a reward for achieving the prestigious award of being a green flag Eco-School. Everyone at the event loved the experience of joining in with the drumming and playing an array of funky instruments - even the teachers! It made the evening such fun, helped everyone mingle and I would recommend the opportunity to anyone. Thank you Twinwave for bringing our party to life!

Music Tech workshops for families

Paul led two days of Music Tech workshops over the summer holidays of 2018 at our community arts centre Creative Workspace in Withywood, South Bristol.

The range of kit he brought was utterly brilliant, and he engaged a wide range of ages with his enthusiastic, positive approach. Twin Wave CIC were recommended to us and now we've booked them I can see why!

Great fun and exercise at the same time

We had so much fun working out with Twin Waves. The instructors made it easy and fun and I was surprised at how much my heart rate did go up whilst drumming. The gone relaxation was a really lovely way to calm down at the end.

Great fun

Cardio drumming was great fun and Paul and Monika have such a lovely way about them that makes you feel comfortable and welcomed. From my first session I would say this is ideal for any level of fitness, but especially great for people who don't like going to a gym and who want something fun and interesting as a way to keep fit.
