Take Charge of Your Healing to Survive and Thrive with Breast Cancer

Here’s my official bio. Have a quick read and then I’ll tell you the rest of the story.

Alison Porter is a journalist, coach, spiritual counsellor and interfaith minister. After an eclectic career including film production, publishing and a high-profile corporate life heading up PR divisions for the Channel Tunnel and sale of the Millennium Dome – all while pursuing her interests in spiritual psychology – Alison’s journey with breast cancer began early in 2015. She is now celebrating life beyond cancer after taking an unconventional approach to treatment.

Originally from Australia and now based in the UK, Alison utilised a lifetime’s learning in spiritual and self-help techniques to help her overcome her illness, and to create the roadmap for healing that is Stronger Than Before.

Her work is now focused on supporting women with breast cancer – coaching them through all stages of their illness, helping them to make the choices that are right for them and empowering them through self-care. She sees breast cancer as a transformational process that can catalyse enormous post-traumatic growth – bringing the potential for a life of far greater meaning, joy and purpose than ever before.

Did I ever think I’d be making a career out of talking about my breasts? Nope. But here we are. Breast cancer does that to you. You feel like you’ve lost a layer of skin and probably a filter that goes with it.

I started out life as a maverick, but over the years that activism slowly wore down. The good news is breast cancer brought it back with a vengeance. It forced me to look at how I was living my life on every level – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual – and to take charge of my own healing.

When breast cancer took a wrecking ball to my life, my writer’s instinct for research set me on my own personal path to healing. Being a coach and counsellor gave me a fully-charged bat-belt of tools to help me find ways to cope with the fear, the emotional stress and the uncertainty.

I went off-piste with treatment to ensure my choices would help my body heal itself. Cancer is a systemic disease. It’s a body out of balance, with an immune system that’s unable to do its usual job of destroying malignant cells. You have to support it back into wellness.

That’s where you come in. We all have different levels of wellness, emotional challenges, mindsets and ways we feel connected to something greater than ourselves. There’s no one-size-fits-all formula for cancer. We need a personal prescription that looks at our bodies and our lives as a whole. But you won’t get that unless you decide to take your healing into your own hands. I’m here to help you find your way.
